Zone 10 gardeners should be planting their gardens in December. With no risk of frost but the dog days of summer behind us, this is the perfect time to plant. See the vegetables below that are perfect for planting now.

The Red Zebra is not only a beautifully striped hybrid tomato, but it also has a very juicy and flavorful taste as well! This variety was first grown in 2013 by Jeff Dawson and is a cross between Tom Wagner's 'Green Zebra' tomato and an unknown parent.

The 7 Pot Douglah is one of the hottest and rarest of the 7 pod strains available! This pepper variety is characterized by a dark brown flesh that has wrinkles all over the surface. 7 Pot Douglah starts out green and matures to the dark brown. When you slice a fresh Douglah open, you will immediately see pools of liquid capsaicin oils that give this chili so much heat and has an excellent flavor fresh or as a powder! The Blue Shelling Pea is a Dutch heirloom blue podded pea that has been highly regarded for hundreds of years. This very versatile variety can be picked young and eaten raw as a colorful snow pea pod or left to swell and harvested as a plump pea for cooking. The Dickinson is a smooth large pumpkin perfect for pies! The large buff colored rind is an attractive addition to any pumpkin patch or garden. Fairytale is a traditional pumpkin variety from the south of France. This gorgeous, big flat fruit is heavily ribbed and looks similar to large wheels of cheese. This pumpkin averages 20 lbs. and ripens to a rich brown when fully ripe. The deep orange flesh is very fine grained, one of the best for baking! Long season.

The Black Krim Tomato is a popular dark purple Russian heirloom with slightly black shoulders that has a rich, sweet flavor that always scores high in tomato test trials! This meaty, juicy tomato variety contains an average amount of seeds on the inside. The Black Krim develops a darker color and a sweeter flavor the longer it matures on the vine. This variety is growing in popularity within farmers markets and different restaurants. The round, medium-sized beefsteaks grows to be 8-12 ounces, and are wonderful for slicing or canning. The Black Krim gets its name for originating in Crimea, a peninsula in the Black Sea.

The Jay's Ghost Scorpion pepper has an immediate burn that slowly lingers to the sinuses. This pepper ranked 900,000 Scoville heat units! This peachy colored pepper is lined with bumps and twists and can have a scorpion-like tail. The Jay's Ghost Scorpion's taste has a slightly sweet floral taste, with a punch!

A deep burgundy flesh with rich flavor! Black Truffel is rich in both sugars and acid, which helps create a sweet, strong, complex flavor that is hard to beat. The Ancho is a very popular, semi-spicy pepper! This tantalizing pepper has a slight mild and sweet apple flavor. This variety is a very versatile 4-6" pepper for fresh, cooked, and dried usage. Ancho's tapered fruits mature from a bright green to red on bushy, robust plants.

El Eden (F1) Guajillo pepper is for Mexican mole. Pepper is a high yielding hot pepper of smooth, 7-8" fruit. Slightly hot peppers that turn from green to an orange-red-brown color when mature. This pepper is also excellent for drying and making powder. Skins are tough so not recommended for fresh eating.

The Chocolate Scotch Bonnet pepper adds the perfect heat to any sauce or salsa! This really hot pepper has a sweet fruity slightly smoky flavor, but with a lot of heat! The spiciness is comparable to a chocolate habanero. The Chocolate Scotch Bonnet ripens from green to dark brown and can grow to be as big as 2 inches.

The Cherokee Purple is an old heirloom tomato that has an outstanding flavor. This tomato dates back to pre-1890 and is recognized as an old Cherokee Indian heirloom that originated in Tennessee. This variety has a semi-meaty flesh with an average seed/flesh ratio. The Cherokee Purple offers some of the best flavor with an earthy-sweet, rich taste that is delicious eaten raw.
