Zone 9 - What to Plant in December

Now is when the main planting is happening in zone 9. The hot and humid days of summer are behind us and we can start growing the garden. With a last frost date in early February you should start growing your tomatoes, peppers and other plants indoors so they are ready to transplant in February.

The Lunar White is a rare white carrot with high yields! This is a very productive carrot with creamy white roots. The Lunar White has a mild, but delicious flavor with small core.

The Corno Di Toro Giallo Pepper is a great cooking variety, as it is an old-time Italian sweet frying pepper! This pepper variety is nicknamed the "bull's horn" for its distinctive horn shape. The Corno Di Toro Giallo's plant bears 8" fruits that mature to yellow.

The Purple Beauty Pepper is a productive pepper plant that produces attractive deep purple colored peppers! This pepper is an open-pollinated variety with a sweet tasting 3x3" block shaped peppers. In comparison, a New Mexico Green chile contains about 1,500 SHUs and an average jalapeno measures at about 10,000 SHUs. Use with caution.

This cabbage is known for its solid head and excellent flavor. Early Flat Dutch is a big cabbage, it is a good keeper and the standard early season variety. Heads form up to 12 inches and weigh as much as 15 pounds. Early Flat Dutch has an excellent flavor.

The Sunbright Pepper is a delicious and crispy bell pepper for home gardens. This pepper variety is a beautiful bright yellow bell pepper, with nice yields of sweet peppers. This colorful pepper is delicious and it will add a lot of color to your salads! The Sunbright is also the perfect pepper for stuffing.

The Marconi Red Pepper is an Italian sweet pepper. This pepper variety is a very sweet thin-skinned pepper that changes from green to red with maturity and has 3-5 lobes.

Oracle is a high yielding Spanish Hybrid with a high level of consistency. Oracle has nice upright tops that are glossy and vigorous. These traits combined with a robust disease package make this hybrid grower friendly. Oracle is also an excellent choice for mechanical harvesting and long term storage.
