Rebellion is a full season synthetic population derived from crosses among commercial and university corn belt dent inbred lines. Quite uniform Rebellion, it has the Ga1s trait to discourage cross pollination from unwanted pollen. Ga1s are naturally occurring traits in corn that will greatly reduce outcrossing with plants that don’t carry the same trait. This trait is called gametophytic incompatibility. This trait helps prevent accepting unwanted pollen from transgenic and other field corn. Rebellion was developed by Dr. Frank Kutka and the Seed We Need Project.
VK Early is a fast growing corn variety that grows to 6-7’ tall with ears reaching 7.5-8.5" long. Kernels tend to be mostly yellow with some brown or maroon finish. Yields well for an open-pollinated variety with mostly flinty type ears.
Iron and Clay cowpeas makes a great cover crop for smothering weeds and adding Nitrogen to soil. This variety of cowpeas are grown just like soybeans. Iron and Clay is a fast growing plant that can reach 3'. The best time to plant is during spring for best results as the frost will kill the cowpeas. Iron and Clay has long taproots that help withstand drought conditions and can produce as much as 300 lb./acre nitrogen. This variety has a high organic matter production. Broadcast up to 120 lb./acre, 1/2 to 1" deep. Try with cowpea inoculant for maximum Nitrogen fixation.
